RESTORING ANACOSTIA

VISION 2009

In 2000 Kids Konnection purchased 1300 Good Hope Rd creating a thriving ministry center for youth - The Gatepost. Next door was Nikki's Supper Club, a drug user's hangout. Five months later Nikki’s was no longer in business and the building was vacant for over a year. Making contact with the owner of Nikki's, a contract was negotiated to purchase the vacant building for $197,000.

The Anacostia community has been long neglected but has historic significance to Washington, DC. It is our vision to see this historic restaurant redeemed into a cyber café safe for young and old to come, do homework and chat with their friends. The Gateway Cyber Café will be one of the first sit-down restaurants in Anacostia. Good coffee and non-alcoholic beverages will be served to the patrons as they learn how to break the digital divide and open their visions on the cyber highway. Youth will be trained in food service and entrepreneurship as well as providing needed employment.

The Gateway Cyber Café will be a place to enjoy the benefits of computing in a comfortable and well-kept safe environment as well as a quality gathering place for learning and job training opportunities in our community of Anacostia. An estimated $250,000 is needed to restore and furnish the Cyber Café.
